BACKGROUND of THE PROJECT
Safety is a top priority on Europe's roads . There are numerous rules, such as compulsory wearing of belts and helmet and also protection devices such as airbags, which protects us of the worst in case of emergency. Unfortunately, this is not the same everywhere. While in Europe the rates of annual road fatalities decline despite increasing traffic , a reverse scenario takes place in Asia. Bali, the most popular tourist island of Indonesia , is a good example . People in Bali often save money, at the wrong place. That is the reason why many children don’t wear a helmet when they go along with their parents on the motorbike. In Bali, the motorcycle is the most important means of transportation . Due to the increasing traffic , it comes more and more often to serious accidents . While in Year 2009 2,331 motorcycle accidents were counted, there are a thousand more in 2010. Traffic regulations and rules are mostly ignored by drivers, which often leads to a traffic chaos on the streets. While parents often protect themselves from injury by helmets , the kids are usually neglected for cost reasons . And quite often it is not just one child the parents are advancing. Up to 5 children people are carrying around on one single motorbike every day on the streets of Bali. In addition, many underage children, 12 years or younger, drive on their own with the motorbikes and carry around their siblings. Without doubt, money is saved in the wrong place here. Every year many children have accidents on Bali's roads because of inadequate safety precautions - a fact which might be prevented or at least reduced by small effort. And this is where this project starts ...
